Schisandra – The fruit of this plant protects against cancer

Schisandra or the scientifically famous Schisandra Chinensis, ‘Wu Wei Zi’ Chinese grape is a 10-meter tall vine native to northeastern and central China. Schisandra The berry has been used for more than 2000 years to treat various Chinese and Japanese traditional medicine diseases. Schisandra and cancer

Studies published in “ International Journal of Molecular Medicine “October 2009 showed exceptional anticancer abilities of two compounds of Schisandra and  Schisandra C, which can be found in the fruit Schisandra. In this study, Schisandra C and Schisandra prevented cancer cells’ growth and spread. This led researchers to conclude that these two compounds could serve as promising anti-cancer agents.

Schisandra as an antioxidant

Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage, in addition to cancer cells, healthy cells. Schisandra reduces lipid oxidation, increases antioxidant activity, and reduces rats’ mortality. The study concluded that adriamycin is directly related to cardiotoxicity and antioxidant deficiency, and Schisandra improves heart function and increases the concentration of antioxidants during this treatment method.

Schisandra protects the liver from a carcinogen called carbon tetrachloride, according to a study published in the May 2013 issue of the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology. In this study, mice were treated with carbon tetrachloride to increase liver damage.
