Description of the plant Ruta Graveolens

Perennial herbaceous plant with a strong unpleasant odor. Stem straight, 15-20 cm high, branched. The lower and middle leaves are triangular-ovate, 2-3 times pinnate, on long stalks. The flowers are yellow in the apical loose inflorescences. Petals 4-5, on the edge of serrated or lash. The fruit is a bare warty crack with 4-5 nests. Seeds angular black, warty on the surface. Blooms May – August.

It grows in dry stony, rocky and bushy places. Distributed along the coast of the Black Sea, Northern Bulgaria, the Eastern and Middle Rhodopes, the Thracian Plain, in the plains and at the foot of up to 600 m above sea level. It is located in Southeast Europe, grown and naturalized throughout southern Europe.

Plant content Ruta Graveolens

Fresh contains up to 0.15%, and dry – up to 0.7% of yellow essential oil with 90% ketones – methylnyl ketone, methylheptyl ketone, anonanone, etc., methyl salicylate, pinene, lemon, cimol, benzaldehyde, myrcene, elmol, etc. Up to 1% of the glucoside rutin is found in the plant which is hydrolyzed to the flavonol quercetin and the monosaccharides glucose and rhamnose; up to 1% furocoumarin bergapten, xanthotoxin, psoralen, isoimperatorin (antispasmodic action), rutaretin, coumarin xanthotoxin; tertiary and quaternary alkaloids from the group of quinolines with antispasmodic action, skimianin, cocusagenin, graveolin-rutalein, raveolinin and about 10 other alkaloids. The main alkaloid in the roots is fagarin.

Experimental and clinical data on Ruta Graveolens plants

The furocoumarins contained in the plant partially explain its inherent sedative effect. Alkaloids present in the plant and in the first place the alkaloids fagarin and skimianin are characterized by similar activity. The anti-inflammatory effect of the plant is associated with the presence of essential oil and rutin, which are known to strengthen the capillary wall and prevent the development of exudative phenomena.

Use in ulcerative lesions of the stomach and intestines

In folk medicine, mother-of-pearl is used as a sedative and hypnotic. For that purpose, it is recommended to soak the above-ground part of the fresh plant in cold water, and after removing it, drink it before going to bed for 12 hours. This indication of the plant gave it the name fragrant sun. The sedative effect of the plant is especially pronounced in cardiac neurosis. In inflammatory and ulcerative lesions of the stomach and intestines, in worms (Ascans lumbricoides), the use of the plant is also recommended. For that purpose, 1 g of finely ground medicine is extracted in the cold with 400 ml of water for 8 hours, and then drunk during the day. There is evidence that Ruta Graveolens greatly increases uterine muscle tone, so it should not be taken by pregnant women (risk of miscarriage). Externally crushed fresh leaves of Ruta Graveolens are used for insect bites. It is also recommended to apply the joints that are involved in acute rheumatism.

Side effects of the plant Ruta Graveolens

In pregnant women, it can cause incomplete abortion. Hypersensitive people can faint or swell even after one contact with the plant. It should be borne in mind that Ruta Graveolens contains furocoumarin bergapten which has a photosensitizing effect.

Method of application of the plant Ruta Graveolens

One teaspoon is extracted with 400 ml of cold water for 10 hours, then filtered and drunk during the day.

External application Ruta Graveolens

For applying Ruta Graveolens when you are bitten and stung by insects, sprains, rheumatism, gingivitis. The infusion of the plant in strong brandy (1:10) is recommended for rubbing in gout, rheumatism, sciatica, bruises, joint pain, lumbago. Fresh juice is used for dripping for inflammation of the outer ear, for dressings for eye fatigue

Composition

1ml contains 1ml of mother-of-pearl tincture 1: 5, which is equivalent to 250mg of mother-of-pearl. Alcohol-ethanol 22%; Glycerin 39%

Method of use and dosage

As a dietary supplement, take 25 drops three times a day, dissolved in 100 ml of water (25 drops = 1 ml).

Contraindications

Not recommended for pregnant women. Do not take this product if you are taking prescription antidepressants or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before use.
