But also numerous phagocytic cells are present from birth, as well as the ability to initiate inflammatory processes or the so-called complement system. The latter consists of more than 30 proteins that can fight microorganisms (bacteria, parasites, fungi). They are found free in the blood serum or bound to cells.
Acquired immune system
Acquired immune systems, in turn, develop over a lifetime. Therefore, it forms appropriate countermeasures and strategies for pathogens and foreign substances that arrive every day. Therefore, excessive hygiene and constant use of disinfectants are counterproductive. The body feels safe because it believes that there are hardly any pathogens left – and the immune system cannot “exercise” so it is not ready for a real attack from the outside.
The acquired immune system is fully developed and effective in the period around puberty. Only in old age does its effect decline again. However, the performance of the immune system can also deteriorate at a young or middle age, because many lifestyle factors can weaken the immune system, e.g. smoking, alcohol, stress, medication, sedentary lifestyle, pre-existing chronic diseases and poor diet. At the last point, it can be generally said that a lot of meat and sugar weakens the immune system, while a plant-rich diet rich in vital substances strengthens the immune system.

How exactly does the immune system work? If a foreign substance or pathogen enters the body, immune reactions occur, which are generally called defensive or immune reactions and interconnect like gears in a mechanism, depend on each other and cooperate with each other.
