The use of:

Rutin or vitamin P is present in the appendix, helps heal blood vessels, and regulates blood pressure. Pitin is also known as a lemon bioflavonoid and is widely used in alternative medicine due to its positive effect. The physiological function of this vitamin is to strengthen the walls of capillaries and regulate their permeability. It has the ability to accelerate the absorption of vitamin C, preventing its oxidation and destruction. Vitamin P deficiency is manifested in the general weakness of the body, pain in the legs and arms, the fragility of capillaries, and the resulting spotting and bruising on the skin. Frequent bleeding gums during brushing can also be caused by a lack of vitamin P or rutin.

Description

The rutin enzyme is part of a large family of flavonoids called bioflavonoids. These plant pigments have multiple effects on the body, and one of the most important is the reduction of the fragility and permeability of capillaries. Flavonoids also improve the effect of vitamin C on the body by increasing its absorption and delaying its removal.

Rutin is chemically very close to quercetin (another flavonoid) and, like it, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, vasoprotective (protection of blood vessels), and antithrombotic (protection against blood clots) properties. It is present in several medicinal plants, including eucalyptus, hawthorn, Ginkgo Biloba, and St. John’s wort.

Sources of rutin in food

Buckwheat is one of the best sources of rutin. It is also found in citrus fruits (especially in their peel), grapes, red wine, apricots, cherries, blackberries, and apple peel.

Rutin

Venous insufficiency. Studies specifically on rutin are few. In one of them, volunteers with chronic venous insufficiency were asked to regularly drink buckwheat juice, a good source of natural rutin. At the end of 3 months of treatment, the symptoms decreased.

During the second preliminary test published in 2001. year, 30 people took a placebo or a preparation containing vitamin E, rutin, sweet clover, and Gotu kola for one month. Although the treatment was more effective than placebo in alleviating the symptoms of venous insufficiency, complete efficacy was not confirmed.

Osteoarthritis. In Europe, several studies have been conducted on Phlogenzim®, a product manufactured in Germany. This supplement contains 90 mg of bromelain, 48 mg of trypsin (an enzyme of animal origin), and 100 mg of rutin. In clinical studies, this product has shown positive results in relieving the symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Rutin in high doses (4 g per day) can reduce bleeding and pain caused by hemorrhoids. In smaller doses of 300 mg or 500 mg twice a day, it can relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids during pregnancy.

French researchers in 1994. In a meta-analysis of 15 placebo-based clinical trials, rutin was useful in relieving the symptoms of venous insufficiency. The results of several clinical trials conducted since the publication of this meta-analysis confirmed the efficacy of rutin derivatives, alone or in combination with other vasoprotective substances. Several of these studies were performed by a team of Italian researchers with Venoruton®.

English researchers in 2010. years assessed different ways of treating venous insufficiency, taking into account new clinical data. They concluded that flavonoids such as diosmin (Daflon®) and oxerutin improved blood circulation and reduced symptoms of venous insufficiency, such as swelling in the legs (edema) and pain. However, for treating leg ulcers, diosmin is superior to oxerutin, which does not give any results.

Lymphedema. This is swelling of the limbs caused by the accumulation of lymph. It usually occurs after treatment, cancer surgery, or radiation therapy. According to 3 clinical trials, these symptoms and the patient’s quality of life would be slightly improved by doses of 3 g of oxerutin per day for 6 months. However, the authors of the systematic review assessed that the quality of these studies does not conclude the efficacy of oxerutin. In addition, no study on the subject has been published since 2004. years.

Contraindications

Some sources recommend that pregnant and breastfeeding women avoid taking flavonoids in amounts greater than those normally absorbed in the diet because they increase the risk of leukemia in children. But in Europe, where oxerutin is usually prescribed to pregnant women with varicose veins or hemorrhoids, no case of neonatal leukemia has been reported.
