Description

The most famous medicinal mushroom of all is Reishi, which in Japanese means “divine mushroom.” Other Japanese names for this indigenous mushroom, which also occurs in Germany, mean “10,000-year-old mushroom” or “immortality mushroom.” Reishi is highly regarded in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as a medicinal mushroom and dietary supplement for more than 2000 years. It is called Ling Zhi or Ling Chi – “Tree of Life Mushroom.”

Reishi mushroom

Reishi is a parasite. It is common worldwide in subtropical regions, less often in the temperate latitudes of America, Europe, and Asia. Reishi is found on numerous deciduous and even coniferous tree species. In Asia, the medicinal fungus is said to grow preferentially on cherries and plums and is considered an aggressive parasite. Ganoderma lucidum belongs to the Porlingen family. There are about 250 species of the genus Ganoderma worldwide.

Usage: Reishi is too hard and too bitter to be an edible mushroom. Reishi is used fresh or dried in powder and extract form, for tea infusions, for supplements, natural cosmetics, and as a medicinal mushroom. Reishi is one of the most important natural remedies for health and long life in Asia. Many reishi considers it one of the most beautiful mushrooms, and it is immortalized in many Asian works of art. Its traditional medical uses include liver and hepatitis, kidney disease, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure, bronchitis and asthma, insomnia, nervous weakness, and arthritis.

Ingredients: Reishi as a hardwood mushroom contains over 65% fiber and only 15% protein, approximately 1.7% sugar, as well as 3.5% fat. To date, about 400 bioactive substances have been discovered in Reishi, including 150 medically relevant triterpenes, bitter taste, 100 different polysaccharides, bioactive proteins, and nucleotides sterols, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, including many irons. Among the trace elements, germanium is of medical importance.
Reishi extract contains active ingredients in concentrated form.

Efficacy against cancer

Ganoderma lucidum grows wild in the forest
No other mushroom is as important in folk medicine in Asia – whether in China, India, or Japan – as reishi. Its ingredients offer an arsenal of active ingredients – like a whole pharmacy. How Reishi works and applies are diverse and very complex. However, this is typical of a holistic natural remedy. Numerous scientific studies with Ganoderma lucidum have proven its effectiveness against various cancers. There have also been successes in fighting cancer in placebo-controlled studies. Reishi is a naturopathic drug in cancer treatment, and partly thanks to its antioxidant properties, it reduces the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. Reishi’s antitumor properties are based on the interaction of its natural bioactive substances: proteins that inhibit cancer, polysaccharides that stimulate immunity, and triterpenes, which are toxic to cancer cells. Even in tumor types that are not directly destroyed by Reishi or Reishi extract, improvement in cancer patients’ general condition has often been found.

Infection defense and anti-inflammatory action

Strengthening and activation of the immune system by Reishi fungus, together with toxic properties to cells or inhibiting cell proliferation, is the basic effect. This medicinal fungus promises against the spread of herpes simplex virus, hepatitis, and AIDS. Antiviral effects can be found in Reishi and antibacterial, for example, against Helicobacter pylori, a trigger of gastritis or inflammation of the gastric mucosa. Improved efficacy of drugs against staphylococci, E. coli bacteria, and salmonella may also be useful in the global fight against infectious diseases. Reishi is traditionally used to reduce inflammation, ie. Against osteoarthritis and rheumatism, as well as against asthma and allergies. General defense against colds, chronic respiratory diseases, and bronchitis are also factors of Reishi’s action.

Anti-aging

Inhibition of inflammation and strengthening of the immune system helps protect all organs in the body. Inflammatory processes often trigger metabolic errors. The substances responsible for this are called free radicals. They cause the skin’s aging process and numerous degenerative diseases of the blood vessels, heart, kidneys, and liver. Aggressive and harmful free radicals also play a major role in early warning signs such as exhaustion and sleep disorders, in symptoms such as high blood pressure, elevated blood lipids, and arteriosclerosis. Antioxidant properties, together with other complex modes of action of Reishi and Reishi extracts in immune modulation and anti-inflammatory properties, significantly contribute to the organism’s general health, fitness, and adaptability, even in the elderly.
