BROMELENE 200 mg, 100 capsules

Product action and application

Bromelain is a natural enzyme complex of several components derived from pineapple, which help you digest food efficiently. It is a proteolytic enzyme of plant origin, ie. is best known for its large amounts of enzymes that break down proteins. This is its main function – to catalyze the breakdown of proteins into amino acids, which the body can then easily absorb and use for many purposes. What is specific about Bromelain is that it works equally well in both acidic and alkaline environments, and this property is very different from the enzymes responsible for these functions in the human digestive system such as pepsin, trypsin and chymotrypsin. By using this supplement, you will get the most out of the food you eat.

Description

With its sharp leaves and thick skin, pineapple can be just as shiny as some crunchy roasts. At the same time, this fruit is equally juicy, with its sweet golden flesh – not to mention its secret weapon: bromelain.

Most people do not know how useful pineapple is and that it is not only good as a decoration for tropical drinks. Thanks to the powerful enzymes it contains – especially the enzyme for digestion and breakdown of proteins called bromelain!

What is Bromelain?

Pineapple, a protected and valued piece of folk medicine from South America and Hawaii, is one of the richest sources of the enzyme bromelain in the world.

It consists of a number of endopeptidases and compounds such as phosphatase, glucosidase, peroxidase, cellulase, escharase and protease inhibitors. In general, “bromelain” sold as an extract or dietary supplement refers to enzymes extracted from pineapple stalks or seeds, and not to enzymes extracted from the flesh of the fruit.

It is widely used as a natural remedy, from indigestion to allergy , not only enzyme but also vitamin C, vitamin B1, potassium, manganese and phytonutrients.

What was bromelain used for?

In the medical world, this impressive compound is traditionally used as a very effective remedy against inflammation and against swelling. Research has also shown that it has fibrinolytic, antidedematic and antithrombotic properties, which means that it helps prevent the formation of blood clots, edema and swelling.

In the past, this enzyme has also been used as a means of softening muscle tissue, as it helps to relieve and relax tense, inflamed muscles and connective tissue. In addition, recent studies have found evidence that this enzyme inhibits lung metastases , suggesting that bromelain can be used to treat a variety of diseases, potentially including cancer.

Given the scientific literature containing more than 1,600 articles evaluating the therapeutic benefits of bromelain, it shows that it has been used to treat a number of health problems, including:

  • Connective tissue injuries such as ACL rupture
  • Injured ankle injury
  • Tendonitis
  • Allergies
  • Arthritis, joint pain and osteoarthritis
  • Gastrointestinal problems such as heartburn or diarrhea
  • Cardiovascular disorders
  • Asthma
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Cancer
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Sinus infections such as bronchitis and sinusitis
  • Surgical trauma and slow wound healing or skin burns
  • Poor drug absorption, especially antibiotics, and drug symptoms

Effect and benefits of bromelain

1. It can help prevent cancer

Studies have shown that bromelain has natural anti-cancer effects, including promoting apoptotic cell death and preventing tumor growth.

Animal experiments have shown that it can induce the production of individual cytokines, have antimetastatic efficacy and inhibit metastases by reducing platelet clots.

Studies have linked bromelain to increased protection against breast and lung cancer, and anticancer drugs recently published the results of a clinical study showing that it affects malignant peritoneal mesothelioma – a rare cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.

The study revealed that “the addition of Bromelain significantly increased the death of cancer cells (cytotoxicity) … Bromelain has the potential to be used as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of malignant diseases.

2. It helps in the treatment of digestive disorders

Why is bromelain good for you if you have indigestion or a gastrointestinal disorder?

Because it is an enzyme that especially helps in the digestion of proteins and has been shown to help the body absorb nutrients and even drugs more efficiently.

Studies show that it reduces colitis and reduces the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines that damage the inside of the intestine.

Because it is very effective in treating gastrointestinal tissues, bromelain is useful for people with the following gastrointestinal problems:

  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • A stomach ulcer caused by dyspepsia and Helicobacter pylori infections
  • Colon cancer
  • Prison
  • crown disease
  • Heartburn
  • Strait

3. Supports faster healing of surgical procedures and injuries

The anti-inflammatory properties of Bromelain make it an excellent natural alternative to painkillers such as aspirin.

A study that studied the ability of bromelain to treat patients who had their third molars removed revealed that it supports wound healing and helps reduce pain and swelling after patients are operated on.

Most patients who are operated on have significant postoperative symptoms, and unfortunately, antibiotics and painkillers are not always able to effectively prevent infections or other ailments during the healing process.

Of the 80 subjects in the study, those who were prescribed bromelain experienced “significantly less” pain, swelling and redness after surgery compared to the control group, for which a general analgesic was prescribed.

4. Fights allergies and asthma

Magazine Evidenced-Based Complementaries and Alternative Medicine highlighted the results of a study that studied how bromelain affects mice with asthma.

The study led to interesting results – for example, that bromelain reduces allergic sensitivity and prevents the development of other inflammatory reactions that affect the airways.

These results suggest that this enzyme helps modulate the overall immune system.

In fact, it can help prevent allergic reactions by targeting the causes that activate them – the hyperactive, hypersensitive immune system.

The study noted that CD11c (+) dendritic cells and cells containing DC44 antigen were retained when supplemented with bromelain, indicating that this enzyme is able to target the underlying causes of asthma and allergies.

It therefore helps most people who suffer from symptoms such as a stuffy nose / runny nose, itchy eyes, swollen lymph nodes, blood clots and difficulty breathing.

5. Helps prevent or treat sinus infections (rhinosinusitis)

To determine if a daily dose of bromelain (300 FIP units, 600 milligram tablets) can help people with chronic sinusitis (sinusitis), researchers with University of Cologne in Germany, they studied 12 patients who had already undergone sinus surgery and were treated with bromelain for three months.

The following benefits of bromelain have been identified: overall symptoms have improved, overall rhinoscopy has improved, overall quality of life has improved and no side effects have been reported.

Because surgery can often be ineffective in treating sinusitis, this research yields promising results for people who have chronic sinus problems.

6. Helps reduce joint pain

Thanks to its strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, bromelain has a fantastic effect in reducing acute or chronic joint pain.

The Journal of Alternative Therapy in Health and Medicine published a research experiment in which 42 patients with articular cartilage who had a degenerative spine or painful joint conditions were observed.

Patients received two 650 milligram capsules of bromelain two to three times daily on an empty stomach (depending on whether they had acute or chronic pain).

The researchers found that participants with acute pain had a pain reduction of up to 60% and a reduction of more than 50% in those with a chronic disorder.

The researchers concluded that “bromelain has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and may be a safer alternative or additional treatment for damaged articular cartilage.”

7. It can help you lose weight

Its effects on body weight and fat cells are still being studied, but there is reason to believe that it can help you lose weight thanks to its anti-inflammatory ability to relieve pain, as well as the ability to improve your physical abilities and digestion. .

According to an article from 2017. in PLOS One, “the bromelain strain (SBM) is used as an alternative anti-obesity drug.”

Some studies have shown that bromelain helps reduce adipocyte proteins that bind fatty acids, fatty acid synthesis and lipoprotein lipases.

It can also inhibit adipogenesis (cell differentiation, which can contribute to the formation of fat cells) and reduce the accumulation of triglycerides.

Dietary supplements and dosage

How much bromelain should you consume per day?

The most commonly prescribed dose is between 200 and 2000 milligrams per day (usually between 500 and 800 milligrams per day). However, for different conditions, many doctors may recommend other doses.

The following are recommended doses of bromelain depending on the condition being treated:

  • For the treatment of arthritis – 400 milligrams 1-2 times a day
  • For the treatment of allergies – 1000 mg of bromelain and quercetin daily
  • For cancer prevention – 2000 mg per day, ideally in combination with other proteolytic enzymes
  • To improve digestion – 500 mg three times a day during meals; some decide to mix bromelain powder in water and consume it before meals
  • For recovery after surgery – 1000 milligrams three times a day between meals

Bromelain should be taken on an empty stomach unless taken to improve digestion. Consume with meals if used for digestive purposes.

Bromelain is considered a natural dietary supplement, not a drug, and is therefore not regulated by the FDA. However, the Supplemental Food Health and Education Act (DSHEA, 1994) allows the sale of dietary supplements containing bromelain, especially for the treatment of skin wounds and burns.

The best bromelain dietary supplements combine with other digestive enzymes to stimulate their action. For example, amylase (an enzyme needed to properly digest glucose) can be found in a general digestive enzyme supplement that includes other key digestive enzymes.

History of Bromelain

Pineapple has a long background in places such as Hawaii, South America and Asia. According to the Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine:

“Bromelain was first isolated from pineapple juice in 1891. year and introduced as a therapeutic dietary supplement in 1957. years.”

The earliest medical use of pineapple included the application of a mixture of pineapple to wounds and skin lesions to reduce swelling and promote healing, as well as the consumption of pineapple juice to treat abdominal pain and improve digestion.

In Germany, bromelain has been used safely for decades to treat connective tissue injuries, postoperative swelling and blood clots.

It is considered very safe to take it in moderate doses and will continue to provide impressive benefits as more studies continue.

Side effect of bromelain

Bromelain is generally well tolerated and is unlikely to cause side effects. However, there are cases when this enzyme is not safe.

As it helps prevent blood clots, it is important to be especially careful when taking bromelain if you are taking blood thinners.

The same goes for surgery: Avoid taking it immediately after surgery, unless you see a doctor first, as this may increase the risk of bleeding.

Enzyme-related side effects usually include gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, stool changes, and increased bloating.

Symptoms of a bomelain allergy are also possible and may include itching in the mouth or skin, a rash, difficulty breathing, a stuffy nose and watery eyes.
