With its sharp leaves and thick skin, pineapple can be just as shiny as some crunchy roasts. At the same time, this fruit is equally juicy, with its sweet golden flesh – not to mention its secret weapon: bromelain.
Most people do not know how useful pineapple is and that it is not only good as a decoration for tropical drinks. Thanks to the powerful enzymes it contains – especially the enzyme for digestion and breakdown of proteins called bromelain!
What is Bromelain?
Pineapple, a protected and valued piece of folk medicine from South America and Hawaii, is one of the richest sources of the enzyme bromelain in the world.
It consists of a number of endopeptidases and compounds such as phosphatase, glucosidase, peroxidase, cellulase, escharase and protease inhibitors. In general, “bromelain” sold as an extract or dietary supplement refers to enzymes extracted from pineapple stalks or seeds, and not to enzymes extracted from the flesh of the fruit.
It is widely used as a natural remedy, from indigestion to allergy , not only enzyme but also vitamin C, vitamin B1, potassium, manganese and phytonutrients.
What was bromelain used for?
In the medical world, this impressive compound is traditionally used as a very effective remedy against inflammation and against swelling. Research has also shown that it has fibrinolytic, antidedematic and antithrombotic properties, which means that it helps prevent the formation of blood clots, edema and swelling.

Patients received two 650 milligram capsules of bromelain two to three times daily on an empty stomach (depending on whether they had acute or chronic pain).
The researchers found that participants with acute pain had a pain reduction of up to 60% and a reduction of more than 50% in those with a chronic disorder.
The researchers concluded that “bromelain has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and may be a safer alternative or additional treatment for damaged articular cartilage.”
7. It can help you lose weight
Its effects on body weight and fat cells are still being studied, but there is reason to believe that it can help you lose weight thanks to its anti-inflammatory ability to relieve pain, as well as the ability to improve your physical abilities and digestion. .

History of Bromelain
Pineapple has a long background in places such as Hawaii, South America and Asia. According to the Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine:
“Bromelain was first isolated from pineapple juice in 1891. year and introduced as a therapeutic dietary supplement in 1957. years.”
