The gastric bacterium Helicobacter pylori are the most common cause of inflammation of the gastric mucosa ( gastritis ) and cause symptoms such as nausea, heartburn, and abdominal pain. With proper nutrition, you can alleviate the symptoms and avoid antibiotic therapy.

Helicobacter pylori – all information
Helicobacter pylori: What is that? “Helicobacter” is the name for gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria that can attack the gastric mucosa. If we are talking about Helicobacter pylori gastritis, it means that the bacterium attacks the gastric mucosa, leading to secondary diseases, such as stomach ulcers. A link between Helicobacter and gastric cancer has also been established. Why? The bacterium Helicobacter infects the stomach and produces a protein that blocks the defense response. The result: bacteria are not eliminated, and cancer can develop.
Helicobacter pylori are manifested by constant stomach problems, such as frequent belching or bloating, even with light food. Also, stomach germs are highly contagious.
What helps with Helicobacter? If a doctor diagnoses a bacterial infection, the stomach’s bacteria often fight antibiotics. Also, so-called acid blockers are prescribed. However, there are also natural methods of treating a bacterial case without antibiotics – after all, such treatment often has side effects, which can lead to worse symptoms.
Helicobacter pylori treatment without antibiotics?
Antibiotic treatment does not destroy bacteria but keeps them at such a low level that they no longer cause symptoms. Diet plays an important role. With proper nutrition, you can quickly solve stomach problems.
Helicobacter pylori diet: what foods help with gastritis?
Medical professionals have been studying various alternative methods of treatment for years. Certain foods are beneficial in the case of inflammation of the gastric mucosa as a result of a bacterial attack by Helicobacter pylori:
- broccoli
- Citrus and onion
- Garlic
- yogurt
- ginger
- ginseng
- Cranberries
- Green tea
Broccoli kills unwanted stomach germs
Broccoli seedlings contain the valuable antioxidant sulforaphane, which kills Helicobacter pylori’s stomach germs and thus helps against stomach ulcers. Eating broccoli can also prevent stomach cancer. Broccoli also reduces the risk of prostate cancer. Already 100 g of broccoli a day protects against stomach cancer and alleviates the symptoms caused by Helicobacter pylori.
Citrus fruits and onions: Sulfur substances against the causes of stomach cancer
According to international cancer researchers, citrus fruits can prevent any other case of stomach cancer. Reason: They contain 58 different substances against this type of tumor. To be safe, eat raw onions every day because their sulfur excludes nitrosamines (e.g., meat), which cause cancer.
Garlic for stomach upsets
Food that irritates the stomach is especially harmful. These include spicy foods, alcohol, very fatty foods, coffee and nicotine.
Garlic moves your stomach and intestines. Helicobacter pylori multiply in the stomach and cause inflammation. Garlic also acts as a fuel: it stimulates the body’s glands to be more active, for example, the digestive glands in the stomach and intestines. By doing this, garlic can relieve gas, intestinal cramps, and constipation. Experts, therefore, recommend eating two to three fresh fingers a day if you have digestive problems. Even with bile problems, intestinal infections, and fungal infections Candida, garlic is recommended.
Yogurt against dangerous stomach germs
Regular consumption of probiotic yogurt – for example, enriched with bacteria lactobacillus acidophilus – can prevent the reproduction of Helicobacter germ cells. This fact significantly reduces the risk of developing stomach ulcers. It is not clear how lactic acid bacteria manage to stop the dangerous germ. Recent studies have shown that taking probiotics with the bacterial strain Bifidobacterium also affects Helicobacter pylori.
Ginger has an antibacterial effect
The healing properties of ginger are known to many today. It has also been proven that the ingredients of ginger root have an antibacterial effect. U.S. researchers examined the effect of ginger extract on the reproduction of the bacterial strain Helicobacter and found that it suppressed the spread. If you suffer from stomach problems, take a glass of water with ginger or ginger tea.
How ginger helps:
Pour 250 ml of boiling water over one teaspoon of grated parsley root and ginger.
Let stand for 10 minutes and strain.
Tea also has a strong diuretic effect. It is best to divide the amount into three portions a day, which you should then drink before meals in the morning, at noon, and in the evening.
The healing power of ginseng for gastrointestinal ailments
Over 2000 years, healing power ginseng in Asia is considered a miracle weapon for gastrointestinal ailments. And the root extract also helps with Helicobacter infections to reduce symptoms such as stomach pain or heartburn. Korean scientists have managed to prove that the extract of red Korean ginseng prevents bacteria’s growth.
Cranberry protects the stomach wall
Cranberries contain so-called anthocyanins. They prevent bacteria from sticking to the stomach wall and thus fight Helicobacter pylori infection. A glass of cranberry juice a day is enough to alleviate the infection.
Green tea against inflammation
Green tea stimulates digestion and metabolism and is considered one of the world’s healthiest drinks. It is rich in antioxidants and nutrients. It has a strong effect on the bacterial strain Helicobacter pylori.
Treatment of Helicobacter pylori with antibiotics
The doctor always treats Helicobacter infection with antibiotics to kill the pathogen – in medicine, a process called “eradication.” As a rule, the doctor prescribes two different antibiotics for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori, which the person must take at the same time for several days. These are the active ingredients clarithromycin and metronidazole (amoxicillin is given as an alternative). To protect the gastric mucosa from gastric acid, the patient is also given a so-called acid blocker (a proton pump inhibitor, for example, the active ingredient omeprazole or pantoprazole). An acid blocker reduces stomach acid production so that the damaged gastric mucosa can recover and the pain is reduced. Combining two antibiotics and an acid blocker to treat Helicobacter pylori is called triple therapy.
Drugs that help treat Helicobacter pylori infection
People who suffer from severe gas and bloating can also take foams or drugs that stimulate the intestines during the treatment of Helicobacter pylori.
